NCPA ADD ART Festival concludes with spectacular performances and an extraordinary experience for audiences

Desk Correspondent, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 2nd Dec 2019 : To mark the prodigious milestone of 50 years, India’s prestigious cultural institution The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) hosted its three-day multi-genre extravaganza, the ‘NCPA ADD ART FESTIVAL’ from 29th November – 1st December 2019.

The Opening Night witnessed a gala concert by the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) featuring choirs from around India and dancers from the Abay Kazakh State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

The festival witnessed noteworthy performances by revered artists such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Birju Maharaji, Astad Deboo, Mallika Sarabhai, Malavika Sarukkai, Aditi Mangaldas, Ustad Rashid Khan and more across three days. Audiences also enjoyed special performances by Actor Jim Sarbh, Iguedsman & Joo, Dadi Pudumjee, Yuki Ellias & many more.

10 -time Grammy, 6-time Billboard, and Emmy Award winner, Arturo Sandoval performed LIVE in concert. He also performed in anexclusive jam session with some of India’s leading Jazz and Indian Classical musicians and conducted a masterclass exclusively for the first time in India at the NCPA ADD ART Festival

One of the highlights of the festival was a special performance by the students of NCPA in collaboration with Symphony Orchestra of India. Over 50 students of Indian and Western music, studying under the various educational programmes of the NCPA, came together and presented a concert showcasing the breadth of young talent being honed under these initiatives. The concert included performances by NCPA scholars, shishyas studying under the Support to Gurus programme, students of the ‘Music for Schools’ programme and students of the SOI Music Academy.

The festival also witnessed dance appreciation workshops by renowned artists such as Mandakini Trivedi, Jhelum Paranjpe, Uma Rele, Sandip Soparrkar, Sandhya Purecha, Kalamandalam Gopalakrishnan & many more. There were alsoTheatre Masterclasses with Director Bruce Guthrie (Dance head of NCPA), performative reading session with Asif Ali & many more.

The festival concluded with a performance by The Manganiyar Seduction. An internationally acclaimed audio-visual spectacle, this colourful production brought together nearly 40 talented Manganiyar musicians, both vocalists and instrumentalists, in a truly magical setting. Their folklore unfolded with an exciting choreography of melodies building into a finale of a breathtaking interplay of sound and light.

Apart from the stellar performances, the audience also enjoyed a soulful culinary experience at the NCPA campus. The experience entailed homage to great food legacies and exquisite traditions from around the world. Publicity : Perfect Relation.
