News Correspondent, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 23rd May 2020 : Emami Art, one of India’s leading contemporary art galleries based in Kolkata along with Kolkata Centre of Creativity (KCC) is hosting ‘Extend A Hand’ a series of online exhibition to support the younger artists and direct a percentage of the proceeds towards rehabilitating communities that are suffering due to the outbreak of COVID-19. In the past few weeks we have seen that the world is going through an unprecedented and challenging time and that only if we are in this together in harmony, will we be able to fight against the pandemic that has put the entire world in a dilemma. The economic and humanitarian cost of the pandemic would be impossible to imagine today and incredibly hard to bear in future. As responsible corporate citizens we believe it’s time to come forward and make a difference.

Extend A Hand will showcase 120 artworks by 36 established, emerging and new contemporary artists.  The artworks which include paintings, sculptures and installations are priced at Rs. 8,000 onwards.  By participating in Extend a Hand, the artworks will serve the buyers as not only a reminder of their generosity but will also contribute towards saving the lives of many, who are struggling.

Emami Art believes in the role of mentorship and sharing of knowledge that plays a key role in guiding and moulding an emerging artist.  The current scenario has made it necessary for all, including art students and emerging artists to remain in the confines of their home.    In an effort to provide quality mentorship to these emerging artists and students, Emami Art, through an easily accessible platform is hosting Emami Art Mentorship Program.  This initiative curated by Ushmita Sahu offers a platform for the benefit the youngsters who can get direct insights, guidance from a counsel of established artists, writers, curators, gallerists among others.  The maiden program being held between 13th May – 16th May, 2020, will have artist Atul Dodiya; writer, curator, cultural theorist Ranjit Hoskote; performance artist Nikhil Chopra; gallerist Mortimer Chatterjee who will act as the Mentors and share their personal knowledge, advice, information and skills with an aim to nurture and mentor these young and upcoming art professionals.
