St. Xavier’s adopts an Amphan affected village near Kakdwip
News Correspondent, abptakmaa,Kolkata, 9th July 2020 : Rev. Fr. Dominic Savio, Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata along with other Fathers of St. Xavier’s College and Staff Members today visited the Multi-purpose Cyclone Shelter at Narayanpur No. 4 Ghety of Kakdwip Police Station under Sundarbans Police District for Distribution of relief materials to the Amphan Cyclone Victims.
This is the 3rd Consecutive effort of relief and rehabilitation by St. Xavier’s College along with the Alumni Association after Amphan Cyclone devastated a huge stretch of South Bengal especially South 24 Parganas, specifically Sagar Island – Kakdwip – Namkhana stretch which saw the landfall of this severe cyclone.
The Principal of St. Xavier’s College has always maintained that the institution will be giving all possible support towards upliftment of standard of living of these cyclone affected areas not only through such series of relief distributions but also initiating an array of social welfare activities, career development of students, skill enhancement programs.
Rev. Fr. Dominic Savio has also added that St. Xavier’s College will adopt a village in this Sundarban stretch of South 24 Parganas soon after the local Police Administration completes the process of identifying the same. Soon after the official handover, the College will be sending the students for educational trips, organize excursion camps during festivals, open charitable schools and host an array of other development activities including the Teachers and other staff members as well as St. Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association, which is well known for conducting philanthropy activities all over the world.
St. Xavier’s extends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Mr. Sudip Singh Inspector Incharge of Kakdwip Police Station for inviting St. Xavier’s for rendering noble services towards extending help and support to the helpless and homeless Amphan cyclone victims of Sundarbans.
