FFI to organise first Global Cinema Festival in Siliguri
News Correspondent, abptakmaa, Siliguri, 10th August 2019 : The Film Federation of India is proud to organise the first Global Cinema Festival Siliguri 2019 from 21st-25th August. The festival will screen 36 feature and 24 short films, under both National and International categories during these 4 days of intense film appreciation in this nodal corridor of Eastern India.
Film Federation of India’s President Mr. Firdausul Hasan said, “The festival would be held from 21st to 25th August. Tollywood diva Rituparna Sengupta will be the face of this event while, Mr. T. P. Agarwal would be the Chairman of the Festival. At FFI we have the responsibility and the duty to promote film and the related industries with film across the country and beyond its borders. So, taking forward this initiative we have decided that we will be bringing Global Cinema Festival to tier 2 and tier 3 cities across India. So that the people from these towns and cities can also be a part of such international film festivals and get a chance to watch quality movies coming from across the globe.”
“The films that would be shown, both full length and shorts, have been carefully curated to suit the taste buds of all cross section of people and also let them be a part of Global Cinema celebration for these days. The films would be shown in 3 auditoriums – Dinabandhu Mancha, Rabindra Bhavan (Saktigarh), New Cinema,” Mr Hasan added.
While, showcasing films would be the central and focal point of the festival. It has also two other very important features. On the 22nd night there will be a fashion show which would feature some of the top designers from this part of world along with top models from India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
It will also have four big names and showstoppers namely Rituparna Sengupta, Swastika Mukherjee, Gargee Roychowdhury and Pranjal Bhat. This film festival would be attended by leading film producers and directors like: Randhir Kapoor, Rahul Rawail, Indra Kumar, Anil Sharma and Asit Modi.
West Bengal Tourism Department has come forward and joined hands with the festival so that the delegation could be taken to the various tourist spots around this region where film shooting can be done. This will both promote tourism in the region and also enrich our film industry by giving them virgin and beautiful tourist spots,” he said.
As we all know in the 50s and 60s and even early 70s West Bengal was the destination for film making across India. Several iconic movies have been shot in West Bengal and in North Bengal. “We want to bring back the golden era of film making in West Bengal and therefore this initiative is taken to highlight the tourist spots to encourage the film makers to come and make films. Complete co-operation and support will be given by West Bengal Tourism Department. We are grateful to have Mr. Goutam Deb, Minister in-charge of Tourism Department Government of West Bengal, with us without whose initiative this would have been impossible,” said Mr Hassan.
“The Film Federation of the India is the Parent Body of film makers and producers in the country and also a member of FIACO. It is our responsibility to promote, develop and highlight films across the globe. This initiative is just the first among many others that will be taken by FFI for the film making in the country,” he finished off.
The inaugural ceremony, on 21st August, will be kick-started with a glorious performance by actor and dancer Indrani Dutta and musical maestro Bickram Ghosh, at The Four Vedas, Matigara, Siliguri. Publicity : Carpe Diem Communique.
