New Town Kolkata hosts city’s First Ever three day long Electric Vehicle (EV) Carnival

Ambar Bhattaharya, Takmaa, Kolkata, 1st Oct 2021 : In line with the New State Policy, New Town Kolkata hosted a three day long Electric Vehicle (EV)  Carnival, in association with The Bengal Chamber, from 1st October to 3rd October at Eco Park Gate 1. The Carnival was inaugurated by JanabFirhad Hakim, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge of Transport of Government of West Bengal in presence of Shri Debashish Sen, Chairman, NKDA and Shri S. Suresh Kumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Power, Government of West Bengal on 1st October 2021.

Over 35 stalls were set up by Vehicle Manufacturers, Banks, Charging Solutions, Utility Companies and others. Electric Vehicles starting From Personal vehicles (included car, two wheelers -bikes and cycles, to passenger vehicles (three wheelers, shikara) all were on display. The noted exhibitors were Mahindra, Hyundai, TATA Motors, MG Motors, HIDCO, Uber, Exide, Power Department of Government of West Bengal, WBSEDCL, CESC and others.

Mr. Nick Low, British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata; Mr. Abraham Stephanos, President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ms. Rowan Ainsworth, Australian Consul General in Kolkata; Shri Animesh Bhattacharya, WBCS, (EXE), Chief Executive Officer, New Town Kolkata Development Authority and Smt Meghna Pal, W.B.C.S.(Exe)Chief Executive Officer, New  Town Kolkata Green Smart City Corp Ltd were also present.

 “It is important to make consumers more aware of Electric Vehicles and its value both commercially and as a preferred option of clean transport. This Carnival aims to bring together the vehicle options and facilitating services for consumers’ awareness and experience”, said Mr. Abraham Stephanos, President, The Bengal Chamber.

To further the State’s transition to Green Transport, the Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2021, has been announced by The West Bengal Government, aiming to position the State as a sustainable transportation infrastructure hub. Through the move, the State government is promoting electric mobility in the State. The policy will remain in force for five years from the date of notification in the official gazette.West Bengal has made global benchmark in EV in public transport, with E buses, as reported by International Energy Agency; a Paris based autonomous intergovernmental organization.
