AirAsia India operates charter flight for seafarers from Mumbai to Chennai, Kochi and Kolkata
News Correspondent, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 22nd June 2020 : In line with AirAsia India’s efforts to help migrant communities reach their homes safely, the airline chartered flights from Mumbai to Chennai, Kochi and Kolkata, to ferry over 360 seafarers. Continuing with its ‘Umeed Ki Udaan’ initiative, the airline has flown over 3900 stranded workers in the last four weeks since commercial operations began again in India, including operations at airports where the airline does not otherwise have scheduled commercial operations such as Port Blair, Jammu, Silchar, Patna and Dehradun. Flights from Mumbai included operations to Ranchi, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Silchar, and Dehradun while the airline also transported migrants from Imphal, Hyderabad and Kochi among others.
Working cohesively with National Law School Alumni, actor Sonu Sood, State Governments, private bodies and individuals, the airline has continuously worked towards ensuring that the Umeed Ki Udaan continues to conquer the sky inline with its brand ethos ‘Now Everyone Can Fly’.
Speaking of the collaboration Anup Manjeshwar, Head, Sales & Distribution, AirAsia India said, “To upkeep with the nation’s measure of containing the virus, the lockdown has resulted in migrant communities being stranded in various parts of the country.
