Institute of Neurosciences announce the start of two new undergraduate courses Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Occupational therapy
Priya Debnath, Takmaa News, Kolkata, 27th Jan 2023 : Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata is pleased to announce the start of two new undergraduate courses Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) and Bachelor of Occupational therapy (BOT) in 2023 under the Department of Neurorehabilitation. The inaugural ceremony of the College of Physiotherapy and the College of Occupational therapy will be held on the 27th of January 2023 in the August presence of Prof (Dr) Suhrita Paul, Vice Chancellor (VC) of West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
The entrance to these two undergraduate courses will be through a competitive entrance examination conducted by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Any student from a science background with a combination of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology scoring at least fifty percent in their higher secondary examination is eligible to apply for the exam.
Each of the Bachelor courses is of four years of duration followed by an internship of six months. The program’s curriculum is as per the guidelines of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and the degrees given will be recognized by the same. While the theory classes and lectures will be held in the upcoming college premises, the existing official alliance with the IGPMER & SSKM hospital will ensure that the students get through practical training with sufficient exposure in different fields of medical sciences at the premier state-run medical college and hospital. There are twenty-five seats for Physiotherapy and twenty seats for Occupational therapy. The fee for the first year is rupees ninety thousand while that for the second year is eighty thousand. Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy are both crucial fields of Allied Health sciences that aim at regaining the functional capabilities of an individual. These courses will help in creating qualified professionals to address the current gap in the approaches in the field of Rehabilitation. The first batch of students are expected to join from June 2023.

After graduation, a host of career opportunities can be explored by professionals ranging from higher degrees or Master’s to private practice to research. I-NK is the pioneer hospital in the private sector in the entire West Bengal to start a BOT course.
