Fashion Fraternity Goes Pink this Month as cancer awareness
Desk Correspondent, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 31st Oct 2019 : This October, JD Institute of Fashion Technology joined hands with Indian Cancer Society to fight breast cancer and spread awareness about the disease. The institute is dedicating the entire month of October to Pinktober, the global fund-raising campaign for breast cancer awareness.
The design institute has initiated several activities like roadshows and awareness talks and conducted the same in collaboration with Indian Cancer Society, India’s first voluntary, non-profit organization for cancer awareness established in 1951 to educate the public about the benefits of early treatment and palliative care.
Students were informed about breast cancer, including the little-known fact that it is not only women, but men too are prone to breast cancer. Students “walked the talk” in the most happening fashion street in the city, Hauz Khas Village, by dressing in pink to support the campaign and spread the message.
Mr Harsh Dalal, Director of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, said, “Out of 1.16 million cases of cancer reported in India, 27.7% cases were of breast cancer, found mainly in women. Early diagnosis of breast cancer can be crucial in providing timely and the most effective treatment and, ultimately, saving lives. Pinktober is an attempt to awaken Indian society to breast cancer and foster all men and women to early detection.”
“We are so thankful for the continued support of JD Institute of Fashion Technology. Their passion for the cause and their generosity in supporting PINKTOBER make them a valued partner in our mission of Helping Women,” said Ms Chandra Rekha Gulabani, Director, Jagrati, an awareness branch of Indian Cancer Society.
