Theatre Director Avanti Chakraborty’s First Short Film-“A midnight Tempest “

Ambar Bhattacharya, Takmaa, Kolkata, 5th Sept 2021 : “A midnight Tempest “, a 4 min short film based on a chapter about the Shakespearean Character Puck and Ariel from the book “Shakespeare our Contemporary “written by Jan Kott. Directed by Prominent Theatre director Avanti Chakraborty the film is starring the handsome heartthrob, Sean Banerjee, a talented popular television and film actor & the young talented film & theatre actor, Rwitobroto Mukherjee. Actor Sean Banerjee who played the role of Ariel and Rwitobroto Mukherjee as Puck.

Puck is a character from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Ariel is from “The Tempest”. Both the spirits meet in a Bar in the midnight in Kolkata and they question and interpret the idea of “freedom” according to their contemporary reality of time and space. The main idea of this short film is to interpret the philosophy, politics and crisis of these classic characters in contemporary time and space in a universal context.

Speaking at the Press Conference Avanti Chakraborty said, “A midnight Tempest” is definitely going to be a very special project for me. The film is my first directorial practice in the area of filmmaking, I have directed several projects for Theatre in the city. The script of this film is a result of an academic and artistic collaboration between professor Ahmed Ahsannuzaman from Bangladesh and Dhaka. It was especially interesting for me because I have dealt with a theatrical content for the first time and told a Shakespeare story through lens & camera. We have an amazing star cast, the audience will definitely get some power packed performance from this short film.”

This 4 min short film is co-produced by the Department of English and Modern languages, independent university of Bangladesh and in India it will be released on a live online event. This short film will also be presented and released through a live online event in Bangladesh by the IUB, Dhaka in the first week of September 2021. Publicity : Candid Communication.
