Experts Shed Light on Future of the Elderly Population and Abuse awareness

Ambar Bhattacharya, Takmaa News, Kolkata, 7th June 2023 : Jagriti Dham, an initiative of Infinity Group arranged a panel discussion on the future of India’s ageing population and the field of gerontology in Press Club that aimed to shed light on the challenges and opportunities presented by the growing elderly population and to raise awareness about the importance of geriatric care.

The panel discussion, moderated by Aninda Das, Vice President of the Marketing department at Infinity Group, brought together distinguished experts in the field. Dr. Indrani Chakravarty, the founder and director of Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology, shared her invaluable insights on the subject. Chitrankana Bandyopadhyay, a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, provided valuable perspectives on the psychological well-being of the elderly. Along with that, Apratim Chattopadhyay, the Founder and MD & CEO of Support Elders, offered his expertise on creating a supportive environment for senior citizens. Nilanjana Maulik, Secretary General of Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India, Calcutta Chapter also there on the dais and shared her experiences and highlighted the challenges faced by individuals with dementia and their caregivers.

Additionally, a presentation on Elderly Abuse Awareness was delivered, focusing on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens ACT, 2007. The presentation highlighted the objectives of the act, which include the maintenance, care, and protection of senior citizens.

Against the backdrop, Jagriti Dham is the first green-certified living centre for senior citizens in Eastern India. The state-of-the-art facility aims to revolutionize the concept of senior care by catering to the daily needs of the elderly. This centre has received its certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and became the first senior living establishment in the Eastern region and the second in India, to achieve a silver rating that champions assisted and independent living.

From the vibrant discussion of the panelists, it is known that the future of the elderly population and gerontology holds immense significance as the world navigates the changing demographics and societal dynamics. Some key aspects that highlight the future of the elderly population and the field of gerontology are Increased Life Expectancy, Holistic Geriatric Care, Technological Innovations, Age-Friendly Communities, Social Support Systems, Interdisciplinary Collaboration, and so on.
