Bratya Basu inaugurates JIS Virtual Education Summit-2020 First ever three-day virtual summit in Eastern India
News Correspondent, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 15th Aug 2020 : History has always proven that those who have adapted have survived. After the never-ending lockdowns and the fear of Covid-19 contradictions, our ‘new rules’ have opened doors for ‘virtual platform’. Everything that was a distant dream a few days ago, have become the reality as the world tries to cope up with its challenges.
Keeping these in mind, JIS Educational group has come up with an innovative idea for the first time in Eastern India to conduct a three-day long virtual summit from 11 August-13 August across Zoom video conferencing platform. The Virtual Summit was inaugurated by Shri Bratya Basu, Minister-in-charge, Department of Science and Technology and Bio-Technology, Government of West Bengal, and Mr Simarpreet Singh, Director, JIS Group today.
The three-day long summit will focus on various topics considering this pandemic situation which includes session on Education, Cyber Security, Culture, Sports and Healthacre. These sessions will be attended by leading industry experts from different spheres. The Day1 Session was themed on Challenges faced by Education sector due to Covid-19 &the next career options. Dr. Malay R Dave, Principal, JIS College of Engineering chaired the panel which comprised eminent educationists Mr.Saikat Maitra, Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Padmasree Prof. Ajoy Ray, Director, JIS Institute of Advanced Studies and Research, Kolkata, Dr. Bimal Chandra Mal, Vice-Chancellor, JIS University, Mr. Indraneil Sengupta, Head of the Department, CS, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
Session on Cyber Security on 12 August’20 will be attended by Sandeep Sengupta, MD, ISOAH Data Securities Pvt Ltd, Tamal Kanti Mukherjee, Lawyer and Public prosecutor for Government of West Bengal and Nirupam Chowdhury, Head, NASSCOM East.
The second day will also focus on the cultural perspective where eminent directors like Anindya Chatterjee and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury will attend to talk about the issues which they are facing in their sector. Actor and author Barun Chanda will also be a part of the session titled “Culture and Covid: Its struggle and impact”. This session will be moderated by renowned Actor Biplab Dasgupta.
Day three will focus on “Sports and Covid” and talk about how sports and physical activity help the world in fighting with any disease and also on how sportspersons are facing challenges. Gurbrux Singh, former Hockey player, Sanjoy Sen, Assistant coach ATK Mohun Bagan and Deep Dasgupta, former cricketer and commentator has given their consent to attend the session.
The final session will bring eminent doctors like Dr Kunal Sarkar, Dr Arindam Biswas and Dr Gautam Mukhopadhyay on board to discuss every aspect of Covid-19 and give us tips on how to live with the virus. The topic for the same will be “Viruses don’t discriminate”.
While inaugurating the summit, Shri Bratya Basu said: “The pandemic is an unknown situation to us where ‘physical distancing’ is our ‘new normal’. Our previous way of life has been disrupted and substituted by ‘new lifestyles’ where physical classrooms have shifted to virtual ones. The entire mode of Education is going through a transition phase where teaching, examination, practical classes etc is undergoing changes, including the admission process. Just like ‘every cloud has a silver lining’, this pandemic too has opened new ways of life where online form of Education is gaining ground as the primary method of imparting education. This ‘new normal’ needs to be adapted by all of us and students should be evaluated accordingly.” Thanking JIS Educational group, Basu added that: “Under the inspiration of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, we are focusing on Biotechnology department where we hope to innovate and create new ideas to help improve life of common people.”
