Bengal Pro T20 League is ready for a grand launch

Ambar Bhattacharya, Takmaa News, Kolkata, 3rd Apr 2024 : The debut edition of the much-awaited Bengal Pro T20 League (BPL), organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal, featuring franchise-based teams, will get underway immediately after the IPL, early June 2024.

“We have been planning to organise the Franchise based League for some time now. After doing a very careful study of similar Leagues in India and abroad, we are now ready to organise the Bengal Pro T20 League this year. We have all necessary permissions from BCCI and the blueprint for the League is also in place. We will ensure this League becomes the best in business and the budding talents from all over the State of West Bengal get the much-needed exposure and the opportunity to play absolute professional cricket,” said CAB President Snehasish Ganguly.

“We shall have 8 Franchise teams and each franchise will have both men’s & women’s teams as per the criteria and pool provided by the CAB,” he added.

As in IPL the teams are named after the cities of India, the teams in Bengal Pro T20 League will be named after cities/districts of West Bengal having multiple districts as their catchment area, making the league very inclusive and reaching out to every nook & corner of the State. Quite a few esteemed business houses have already come on board to own a Team and the CAB will close all the slots by the mid of this month. At the same time the CAB is looking forward to more eminent business houses to become a part of this history in making by joining in as Sponsors and Partners and become active stakeholders of Bengal Cricket.

For the Inaugural year, the Players will be selected by the Franchises through a robust draft process from various categories including Bengal Seniors to players from District catchment areas, as per the guidelines provided by the CAB. This will ensure Cricketers from all across the State get an opportunity to showcase their talent at the highest level in Bengal Cricket. Each team will comprise of a squad of 17 players for men and 16 players for women, that is a total of 264 top cricketers of Bengal will be able to showcase themselves from this platform. The CAB will also introduce the Code of Conduct for all teams similar to the ICC & BCCI Code of Conduct and the entire League will be monitored by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the BCCI. All the teams with their supports staff will be staying in 5-star hotels during the entire length of the Tournament.

The CAB shall also make pools of the coaches and support staffs from Bengal for the Franchises to choose from as per the BCCI guidelines. The CAB has also decided to keep cash prices for the Champions and Runners up team for both men’s and women’s League.

The tournament will be played in a league-and-knockout format, that is a total of 31 matches each for both men and women. All men’s matches will be played at the historic Eden Gardens and the women’s matches at the BCCI approved Jadavpur University, Salt Lake Campus Ground. The men’s matches will be shown live on one of the top sports channels and the women’s matches will go live on a leading OTT platform.

Considering the tremendous enthusiasm for Cricket in Bengal and encourage the ardent fans to come and cheer the future heroes of Indian cricket, the CAB has decided to keep the entry absolutely free of charge for the spectators for this season at both the venues.

Invitations shall also be extended to all the IPL teams to send in their talent scouting teams to identify and explore future prospects for their respective teams.

The CAB has appointed Arivaa Sports Private Limited as an exclusive Management Partner to organise it most professionally much in the lines of the IPL to give the players, support staff and officials the taste and have the best of the experiences as professionals.
