Abbott Launches Revolutionary FreeStyle Libre System in India

News Correspondent, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 2nd Nov 2020 : India has the second largest diabetic population in the world,  and the disease burden poses an even greater threat in current times. COVID can cause more severe symptoms and complications in some people living with diabetes, because their body’s ability to fight off an infection is compromised. However, at this time when diabetes management is essential, access to doctors and clinics continues to be restricted. Technology solutions that help diabetics stay healthy and empower them to manage their condition better can play a vital role. Abbott is now making the FreeStyle Libre system, the world’s leading continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology, available in India. This technology will now be available for adults and children (above the age of four) living with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, offering them more freedom to test anytime and anywhere.

The FreeStyle Libre sensor measures glucose every minute providing the reader a real-time glucose reading on demand and a complete picture of a person’s glucose levels, without the need of painful, routine fingersticks or daily calibration, enabling meaningful lifestyle and therapy interventions. Real-world evidence shows that patients using continuous glucose monitoring systems report better health outcomes including reduced blood sugar levels and lower variability, increased time in target range and better quality of life.

The attached press release contains more information on the same. If you would require further information, we are happy to answer any queries or arrange an interaction with an appropriate spokesperson or medical expert. We would also be happy to provide further information on the new model of care that continuous glucose monitoring offers, including for example:

1.       Recent research published this month showing that increased time in range is associated with lower all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality in Type 2 diabetics.

2.       Culture is proven to influence diabetes care. CGM can empower patients in the unique circumstances and context they live in. For example, in India, cultural and festive celebrations are very important. CGM allows patients to make better choices and enjoy such festivities fully yet mindfully.

3.       Research showing Indian patients using CGM reported greater blood sugar level control, reduced variability, and higher quality of life.

We look forward to your support in partnering with us to create further awareness about the effective use of innovative technology and monitoring to improve health outcomes for diabetics. Publicity : Carepediem Communique.
