Mahavir Seva Sadan starts manufacturing artificial limb unit first in Eastern India
Ambar Bhattacharya, Takmaa, Kolkata, 17th Dec 2021 : The foundation of Mahavir Seva Sadan was laid in the year 1985 by a small group of friends who shared a common dream of serving the society. The journey started with the setting up of an artificial limb manufacturing unit- a first of its kind in eastern India – adopting the world renowned Jaipur foot technology. What started as a small manufacturing unit in a 200 square feet basement area, has over the years bloomed into a 20,000 square feet compound with various other services for the physically challenged especially the underprivileged.
A fully equipped physiotherapy department is being run by renowned physiotherapists. In addition to the limbs and calipers we started manufacturing artificial hands. A vocational training unit was set up to impart various skills to the physically challenged to enable them to gain employment based on their aptitude. Our eye care unit provides free spectacles and cataract operations. A fully equipped Mobile Eye Care van reaches the remotest of villages to help the poor with primary eye ailments. A diagnostic centre has been set up to provide free tests such as CT scan, ECG, USG, digital X-Ray, pathology, etc.
A fully equiped mobile workshop for manufacturing limbs, caliper and hand has travelled to various parts of India and also internationally and provided our services by reaching to the patients in their area. In addition to this we began offering Polio Corrective Surgeries along with the provision of calipers to provide the maximum comfort that can be afforded to Polio patients.
In the year 2013, another marvelous chapter ensued when Mahavir Seva Sadan established a Cerebral Palsy Unit. The outstanding work done at this unit by qualified therapists and specialist doctors yielded positive outcomes. More than 900 children were registered in the first three years along with over 15000 visits by such patients. Encouraged by the positive results of these patients, we have envisioned an expansive medical establishment.
The SHILAANYAAS CEREMONY of our dream project MSS REHABILITATION AND RESEARCH CENTRE, a unit of MAHAVIR SEVA SADAN, by HH SWAMY CHIDANAND SARASWATIJI MAHARJ, RISHIKESH, will be held on Sunday, 19th December 2021 at 10:30 Am in the august presence of many dignitaries.
The project spread over 6.5 bigas of land would provide all our existing services free of cost to our beneficiaries. The center is being set up specially keeping in mind the specific needs of the children suffering from CEREBRAL PALSY. It is being set up under the supervision and guidance of most esteemed doctors in India with all the latest equipment’s and amenities. We would be providing residential facilities for these children along with a guardian. A fully equipped school to impart education to these special children is also being set up in the same premises.
Facilities that will be offered include the most sought-after therapies like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydro therapy, speech therapy, and music therapy. It will come with a high-tech artificial limb manufacturing and fitment centre, a sensory park, early intervention and school readiness programs, expert counseling, special education, inclusive education, vocational training, skill development workshops, residential facility for cerebral Palsy children with a parent, training institute for special teachers and many more provisions.
Alongside this will stand a Multi Specialty Medical Centre comprising of a state-of the-art diagnostic centre, Physiotherapy department, Homeopathy department, Eye Care unit, ENT, Dental Care unit and a plush auditorium?
One block of this gigantic project site will be a building with facilities such as an ultra-modern kitchen, store room, dining space, residential accommodation for resident doctors and paramedical staff, mini gym and an extensive open space for a Mini Zoo and play area.
