Town Club heart breaking win two in a row defeating East Bengal

Ambar Bhattacharya, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 26th Nov 2020 : Town Club bowlers put on a dominating show along with Gitimoy Basu’s blistering knock to defeat East Bengal by 14 runs and win two matches in a row in Bengal T20 Challenger today at Eden Gardens.

Put to bat first Town Club rode on Gitimoy Basu’s blistering 19-ball 45 not out to post 142/7 in their quota of 20 overs while East Bengal could manage to score 128/8 in reply while facing a disciplined Town bowling attack as EB skipper Arnab Nandi’s unbeaten half-century went in vain.

A cautious Gitimoy said about their second win in a row: “Everyone is playing cricket after long time and other teams will come back in form as the tournament will progress. After 5-6 matches the equation will be different so it’s obviously better to win more matches at first. Two wins in two matches, we all are very happy.”

Town trio Ananta Saha (2-14), Md Kaif (3-31) and Azaz Ansari (2-21) shared 7 wickets between them to rattle East Bengal batting lineup while EB slipper Arnab Nandi fought a lone battle by scoring 55 not out off just 38 balls.

Confident about team’s strong comeback EB skipper Arnab said: “There’s no pressure, East Bengal will fight back. It’s a long tournament and we have just played 2 matches. We will play good cricket in the next matcehs and become one of the main contenders of the championship.”

Earlier Sudip Gharami (35) and Purab Joshi (25) steadied Town Club after losing Mirza Danish Alam in the very first over and East Bengal bowlers continued to take wickets in regular intervals till Gitimoy played that quickfire knock.

Gitimoy smashed 5 boundaries and 3 sixes while Akash Pandey was the highest wicket taker for East Bengal with 2 for 24.
