Jay Shree Tea & Industries Limited formally launched their first brand store in Kolkata’s tea market district – Lalbazar.
Debkumar Mallick, Takmaa News, Kolkata, 19th Oct 2022 : Jay Shree Tea & Industries Limited launched their first brand store in Kolkata’s tea market district – Lalbazar, which will retail and wholesale fresh teas from their own tea estates. This Birla Company has a legacy of over 75 years and owns tea gardens across premium tea growing regions of India. The outlet offers an experiential zone for buyers to evaluate teas through traditional tea tasting. Franchises of the same store model will be available to interested business partners shortly.
In the first month, the store sold good volumes of Darjeeling and high quality Assam teas. There is a demand for single estate teas like Mangalam of Assam and Risheehat of Darjeeling. The company expect these volumes to grow substantially as consumers are looking for reliable sources for their teas.
After seeing the enthusiastic response from this store, Jay Shree Tea has already identified store locations in Delhi and Darjeeling and plans are on to start them by this year end. The USP is quality teas from their own estates at reasonable prices along with the Birla trust.
Chief Guest Usha Uthup formally inaugurated the store in the presence of Director Vikash Kandoi, along with members of the promoter family and the top brass of the company. The National Award-winning singer sang an extempore line about tea and also tasted some fresh teas and spoke about her family’s long-standing involvement in the tea industry. Usha ji was accompanied by her daughter and son-in-law, who are involved in the tea business in Kerala. Mr Kandoi addressed the gathering and spoke of how they drew inspiration from international tea retail brands in the UK like Harrods, Whittard of Chelsea and Fortnum & Mason. The customer experience, product guidance and need- understanding these stores offer are fantastic and his vision was that Indian consumers also deserve such an offering and hence they decided to enter the experiential retail space. Cross-domain learning from the coffee industry and how they evolved to speak a brand language that leveraged today’s atmosphere of technology, awareness and information.
