New Town Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samiti Arranging The Sacred Ritual of “KHUNTI PUJA” As They Are Stepping Into The Third Edition Of Puja
Ambar Bhattacharya, Takmaa News, Kolkata, 15th Jul 2024 : New Town Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samiti organized the ‘Khunti Puja’-Embracing Tradition and Spirituality in the Heart of the City!
New Town Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samiti, honor tradition and community spirit. The committee has been organizing Durgapuja since last Two years now. To initiate this year’s puja rituals, Newtown Sarbojanin Durgotsab arranged, “Khunti Puja” on 13th July, Saturday from 12:00 PM onwards.
This year their puja is going to be three years old, and this year the theme is Mrichhakatika– which translates to clay cart in English. Shri Sujit Bose,MLA and minister ofDepartment of Fire and Emergency Services of West Bengal Government, attended the event along withSmt. Krishna Chakraborty, Mayor of Bidhannagar. The Khunti Puja was inaugurated by Aparajita Adhya and Manasi Sinha, two eminent actresses from the industry. Newtown Sarbojanin Durgotsab has retired IPS officer Mr. Banibrata Basu as their chief advisor. This auspicious event took place in City Square, Newtown, opposite Central Mall.

The event brought the community together with colorful decorations, cultural performances, and a shared commitment to fostering harmony, promising a future enriched with cultural diversity and stronger community engagement. Concept artist Anirban Das has curated puja theme for New Town Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samiti.
The tradition of Khunti Puja or pole worship is ages old and marks the beginning of pandal making for Durga Puja festivities. It marks the beginning of Puja. To begin the months-long process with all auspiciousness, the Khunti Puja has become a contemporary ritual.
