Bengal Covid Care initiative felicitates 50 NGOs of West Bengal

Ambar Bhattacharya, Takmaa, Kolkata, 23 rd July 2021 : ‘Bengal Covid Care Initiative’ felicitated 50 NGOs at a Press conference held at Press Club today. They also donated 10 oxygen concentrators and announced to provide 100 safe homes which will be run by these non-profit organizations as a precautionary measure to the predicted third wave of Covid as a complement to the Government of West Bengal’s various initiatives. The event was attended by Dr. Kunal Sarkar (Vice Chairman, Sr. Cardiac Surgeon & Head (Medica Institute of Cardiac Sciences) Sambaran Banerjee (‎Eminent Cricket Coach & Columnist), Dr. Dalia Mitra (Medical Director Sanjiban Hospital), Dr. Sushmita Roychowdhury (Pulmonologist, Fortis Hospital), Firdousi Begum (MLA, Sonarpur Uttar) and Sidhu (Renowned singer Band Member Cactus).

They have decided to facilitate and assist in setting up district-level numerous Free Safe homes, including in villages, with the help of the local community and administration, and the support of Oxygen as well. Apart from the covid infrastructure adoption, they have also zeroed in on various initiatives for awareness, counseling, and support on mental health parameters with expert volunteer Doctors and multiple support of physical infrastructure. They also intend to make a digital platform of consultation with renowned Doctors which can also be accessed right from any corner of the State.

Mr. Kallol Ghosh, BCCI Chairperson and the Founder of ‘Bengal Covid Care Initiative’ added, “We are extremely honored to be associated with such initiatives through which thousands of people could be saved from the deadly virus. In order to succeed against it, we all have to fight together, which is the core mantra or foundation of the initiative. Getting all the help from people and Govt. of West Bengal have enabled us to run smoothly and move forward.” Bengal Covid Care Initiative is partnered by notable city NGOs like ‘‘OFFER (organization for friends enforces & Resources), Change Initiatives, Greymind Communication, Candid Communication, New Town Forum & News (NTFN).’

Mla Firdousi Begum attended the occasion and read out the letter of minister of state and Board of Administrator Kolkata Corporation Firad Hakim regretting for not attending the occasion. Mla Firdousi Begum appreciated the organisor for taking such an initiative to support the helpless people of West Bengal due to COVID by keeping them at safe homes.

Dr. Kunal Sarkar criticised both the Central Govt and State Govt for the vaccines not given according to the demand. He stated that vaccine is the only measure to fight against COVID 19 which may appear in several waves in future.

Mr. Samaresh Das, Convenor BCCI, said, “We created BCCI as an open forum for all NGOs will help entire Bengal to fight Covid and beyond. It will help NGOs to use their resources wisely at the same time will help people with limited resources and vice-versa. This will surely be a game changer before further wave of Covid if any”.
