To prevent heart disease Intra Cardiac Echo cardiography introduced by CSI doctors meet in Kolkata

Ambar Bhattacharya, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 29th July 2019 : Heart disease is the glob’s biggest slayer, claiming about 17.5 million lives every year. In India heart disease, especially cardio vascular disease is increasing day by day. The average age for cardio vascular disease is now decreasing. According to WHO if it is so happened, soon it will be epidemic in our country. Again at least 80% of premature deaths from cardio vascular disease could be avoided if four main risk factors like tobacco usage, unhealthy diet, physical activity and harmful use of alcohol are controlled. Recently a conference was organised by Cardiology Society of India, West Bengal for the 1st time under the banner of “Eastern India Echo and Imaging conclave” where more than 350 physicians participated all over India and from SAARC countries, even faculties from UK, Italy, USA. Dr. Mahesh Coudhury (organising secretary) said, this is an effort of West Bengal CSI to get all types of Cardiac Imaging under one umbrella to bridge the gap between different cardiac imaging modalities which will help in better management of the patients with cardio vascular disease. This is a two full days program on all types of cardiac imaging including Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, Nuclear Imaging, IVUS, OCT and ICE. Dr Debika Chatterjee said, This is the first time in India we are discussing about Intra Cardiac Echo Cardiography which is the latest technology where we can view the inner parts of the heart without opening. Previously patients were suffering from Rheumatic Heart disease which is now fully controlled but now more patients are suffering from Coronary Heart disease which is rapidly increasing that gives us an alarming symptom. There are Fetal Echo Cardio system which helps to detect the condition of a baby’s heart when at the mother’s womb. Speakers present were Dr B S Banerjee, Dr P K Dey, Dr Debabrata Roy and Dr Monoranjan Mondal. Dr Debabrata Roy said, this is the 1st time that Intra Cardiac Echo cardiography is introduced in Eastern India. Eminent international and national speakers will grace the conference.
