BIBS Kolkata organised a workshop on self-defence focusing on empowering women to defend themselves

Ambarnath Bhattacharya, abptakmaa, Kolkata, 20th Sept 2019 : The age-old belief that women are to be guarded, is the foremost and fundamental reason that even in this modern and “informed” age we are
languishing with the constant breach of safety for women. Instead of talking and lamenting on the woes and the wrongdoings and playing the blame game, BIBS Kolkata, a premier business school in the city organised a Self Defence workshop for its women, both students and faculty. The

workshop was aimed at creating awareness on how to be able to get out
of a threatening situation rather than wait or expect help to arrive. Not withstanding the current surge of technology that promises help like GPS tracking, SOS alarm messages, Quick Dial features, one must also be ready to face the situation head on and be able to safeguard one’s self through self- defence techniques.

The event was curated by the Health Club at BIBS Kolkata, organized by
Priyanka Chanda and Soumyadeep Chakraborty, both students of BIBS, who
are also an International Gold Medalists as well as coach. The event was
conducted under the guidance of Dr. Ujjal Mohanta, a renowned MMA and
Savate Instructor. The workshop demonstrated techniques to combat assault involving MMA and Martial Arts techniques which could be easily used to get out of unfavourable situations. The session also focused on health tips and techniques to be agile and fit. The workshop also witnessed participation from the corporate world with senior executives from SBI MF, National Stock Exchange among others who actively participated in the workshop and also emphasized the need for training and empowerment of Women in the workplace to ensure their safety given the way the corporate world operates, with late hours and busy schedules. Special guests present at the workshop were Avik Gupta (Senior Manager, NSE Academy) and Sudipto Barman (Channel Head, SBI Mutual Fund). Publicity : Digital Brandz. Photography : Biswajit Saha.
