Bengal Rose Society and Lions Club of Calcutta North Jointly Present a Spectacular Annual Rose Show
Ambar Bhattacharya, Takmaa News, Kolkata, 13th Jan 2024 : The Lion Safari Park (Rabindra Sarobar Area / Southern Avenue) be a blaze of colour for three days, started from Friday 12 January 2024, with roses of different hues at the Annual Rose Show of the Bengal Rose Society, being organised jointly with Lions Club of Calcutta North.
The three day event (12-13-14 January 2024) inaugurated by Mr. Diptendu Bera, Director of Horticulture, Government of West Bengal at 3 pm on 13 January. Mr. Justice G. N. Ray, former Justice Supreme Court of India and former Chief Justice, Gujarat High Court, was the Chief Guest and Lion Mrs. Manisha Agarwal and Lion Ratan Dugar was the Guests of Honour.
The Prizes to the lucky winners will be distributed on Sunday 14 January afternoon by Mr. Debashish Kumar, Mayor in Council of KMC, in presence of several important dignitaries.
The exhibits will include roses of different colour, shape and form, being displayed as cut flowers or pot roses, by individuals and institutions. The exhibits will be judged by a panel of eminent Rose experts on the opening day (12 January) till afternoon after which the Show will be open to public.
An attractive feature of the Bengal Rose Society Annual Rose Show is the display of pot roses, bearing 200 + flowers at the same time. A rear treat to the eyes, this type of Rose culture is unique to Bengal, where experienced growers spend several months tending their beauties, for visitors to the Show to enjoy for a couple of days. Several rose breeders from Bengal will also exhibit their latest varieties at the Show. These creations, new additions to the Indian rose wealth will have their first viewing at this year’s Show.
The three days extravaganza is expected to receive thousands of visitors to enjoy the beauty of the queen of flowers. This much awaited annual event is coordinated by Dr Narendra Dadlani (President), Mr. M. B. Guin (Secretary) & Mr. Sanjoy Mukherjee (Joint Secretary) of the Bengal Rose Society and Mr. Pravin Chharia (Chairman), Mr. O.P.Bangur (Secretary) & Mr. S. S. Rajput of the Lions Club of Calcutta North, supported by scores of very active members of the two organisations, working for several days and nights arranging this great event for the rose loving people of Kolkata.
