155th birth anniversary of Professor Hakim Ajmal Khan and celebration of World Unani Day by K F Memorial Trust

Debkumar Mallick, Takmaa News, Kolkata, 15th Feb 2023 : World Unani Day is celebrated in India to mark the 155th Birth Anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan who was a pioneer in Unani system of medicine and freedom fighter. To mark the occasion a grand event was organised today at Science City Mini Auditorium, Kolkata which was attended by: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir; Raza MuradBollywood Actor; Dr. Ajmal K TDirector of Calicut Unani Hospital & Research Centre and many other eminent personalities.

On this occasion, Dr. Shawkat Jahan, President of K F Memorial Trusthighlighted, “Unani, a form of traditional medicine based on a holistic approach compared to conventional medicine targeted on organs, is now getting a boost more than ever. Moreover, time and again, Unani has proved its scope in boosting immunity and its efficacy. The main objective of this celebration is to pay tribute to the legendary for his wonderful contribution in the sustained development of Unani system of medicine and to spread the awareness in masses and action about healthcare delivery through Unani system through its preventive and curative philosophy. We will be felicitating Prof. Hakim Syed Khaleefathullah, Padmashri Awardee with Hall Of Fame Award for his contribution towards the development and progress of Unani System of Medicine and we would be also felicitating Hakim M.Z. Ansari, who has been practicing Unani in Jagaddal since last 40 years with Life Time Achievement Award for his outstanding work along with few eminent Doctors will be Awarded in this event for their work in the field of Unani System.”

Hakim Ajmal Khan (11th February 1868 – 29th December 1927) was an eminent Indian Unani physician who was a versatile genius, a great scholar, a social reformer, a noted freedom fighter, an Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in Unani System of Medicine. To recognize his tremendous role and immense contribution in the development of Unani system of medicine, the Ministry of AYUSH, government of India has declared his birthday as “World Unani Day”.

He was one of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. Seeing his role in the foundation of Jamia Millia Islamia University, he was appointed the university’s first chancellor in 1920 and remained in office until his death in 1927. He was the founding Member and President All-India Muslim League and President Indian Congress. His continuous efforts infused a new energy, force and life into an otherwise decaying medical system under British rule.
